About
/ Artist & Designer specializing in mural art, oil painting, and Graphic design.
/ British-canadian-nigerian, Toronto-based, London (UK) born, and bred below sea level in the Netherlands.
Following a growing sense of artistic responsibility, Leone now creates from her source of life to counter-act the increasing presence of anxiety, social polarization, and emotional fatigue. Metaphors of transformation sift the surface of her work, reflecting ideas of change and perspective shifts; while contrasting matte colours magnify the sensation of renewal despite the unknown. The desire to maintain luminosity in her oil paintings has inspired a transparency-driven painting process; which produce highly detailed, saturated, and translucent oil paintings with an internal glow.
Leone’s mural practise carries a similar heart to uplift in seeking to revitalize the neighbourhood/spaces, honour community stories, and highlight subtle but distinctive characteristics. As such, her design process involves getting to know people and creatively responding to her discoveries – to multiply the inspirational qualities that are core to them.
Since receiving her B.Des from OCADU, Leone has exhibited in solo and group shows, and art fairs across Toronto, as well as internationally in Italy and South Korea. She is a recipient of the OIEOS 2010 Scholarship, OAC 2018 Visual Arts Project Grant, and joined Akin Collective’s studio program in MOCA Toronto 2018-19.
In 2016 Leone was a NXT City Prize finalist and assisted on the winning design “Streetcar Murals” adopted by City of Toronto’s King Street Pilot Project. Since then she has received Mural Route’s MACD certificate for professional mural management and continues creating art in the public realm; most notably for WomxnPaint, Canderel’s St. Clair Village hoarding as part of MRL™ in 2019-20, and the Lansdowne Underpass Project with the City of Toronto in 2021.
